SKOWHEGAN — A Skowhegan woman is free on bail after her arrest Friday on charges that included possession of four bags of heroin.

The woman, Abby J. Fowler, 24, was taken into custody after a search warrant of a motor vehicle was carried out Friday afternoon on Water Street in Skowhegan.

Somerset County deputies stopped a black 2001 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Fowler, according to Chief Deputy Dale Lancaster.

The Jetta is registered to a friend of Fowler’s, Lancaster said.

During the search, police reportedly recovered the heroin, the drug clonazapen, drug paraphernalia, more than $200 in cash and an electronic benefit transfer card belonging to another person.

Fowler was arrested and charged with possession of heroin, a class C felony, punishable by up to five years in prison. She was charged additionally with possession of clonazapen without a prescription, a misdemeanor.

Fowler was released on bail on Friday.

The case will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office for review, according to Lancaster. He said Fowler’s arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into heroin trafficking in Somerset County.
