WINSLOW — The Winslow High School football team’s 31-20 win over Foxcroft Academy didn’t erase the Black Raiders loss to the Ponies in last season’s Class C state championship game, but it certainly made Winslow’s playoff road this season a little less bumpy.
HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Turnovers costly as Nokomis falls to Brewer
Senior quarterback Zach Collier completed 10 of 17 passes for 217 yards and a touchdown to lead the Lions past the Warriors 20-6 in a Big Ten Conference game. Collier also rushed for 42 yards and two touchdowns.
HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY: Boothbay, Lisbon win MVC titles
Boothbay came in as the favorites to win a conference title, but Lisbon used a tight pack of runners to stun the field. The Greyhounds, behind third-place finisher Bree Sautter (21:56), finished with 76 points to edge the Seahawks by one point. Monmouth finished third with 92. Boothbay cruised to the boys title with an impressive 38 points. Monmouth (67), Winthrop (83) and Hall-Dale (100) followed.
