in blaze in Embden

EMBDEN — Firefighters from five area departments battled a house and garage fire at a home on the Dunbar Hill Road in Embden on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014.

Homeowner Clayton Williams said he was working in a separate garage when he noticed smoke. He said he tried to extinguish the fire, but was unable to, adding that escaping propane from a nearby tank likely made the fire worse. He said no one was injured and his wife and two dogs got out safely.

Two vehicles were destroyed, as was the garage, and the house received extensive damage. Williams said the home is insured.

“Right now we are not sure what we will do,” Williams said.

Dispatchers warned the roads leading to the fire scene were icy. Crews from Anson, Madison, New Portland and Solon responded to the 3 p.m. alarm. Madison rescue also was sent, as was an EMS ambulance.
