LEWISTON — Lewiston police say several shots were fired, forcing the lockdown of a neighborhood while police looked for the gunman.
The Sun Journal reports that there was a disturbance Monday morning in a parking lot behind Hillview Apartments. Police armed with tactical rifles used a police dog to search the area.
As many as 10 officers were on the scene at one point, but the majority cleared the area by late morning.
The newspaper says students at McMahon Elementary School were briefly on a code-yellow lockdown. That meant students were hurried off their buses and into the building as early as 8:15 a.m.
