AUGUSTA — Two out-of-state men charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault for allegedly holding a Chelsea man overnight in a Hankerson Road home last July pleaded guilty recently to a lesser charge of criminal restraint.
Ricardo David Perry, 19, of Lancaster, Pa., and Eugene R. Charleston, 20, of Manhattan, N.Y., were each sentenced earlier this month to five months in jail and given credit for five months served while awaiting trial.
In exchange for the pleas, the prosecutor’s office dismissed charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault and terrorizing.
“We could not find the victim,” District Attorney Maeghan Maloney said. “We had a lot of people looking for him and completely unable to find him.”
She added that the victim — Ryan J. Partridge, 24, — was acquainted with Perry and Charleston.
Maine State Police responded to the home around 6:30 a.m. July 17, when a woman reported her son called to say he was being held against his will.
Police were contacted Partridge by phone and told him to get out if he could.
Partridge had a rope around him when he ran out of the house after police arrived, according to an affidavit by Trooper Greg Stevens filed in Kennebec County Superior Court. The two suspects fled on foot, and police arrested them after a brief chase.
Partridge told police the two men had beaten him with a gun and threatened to slash him with a steak knife after another man came into the house and used pepper spray on all of them and stole $25,000 from Charleston and Perry.
Partridge told police at the time he knew the men from doing drugs with them.
