The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is still looking for a member organization for its Marine Mammal Stranding Network for the Massachusetts North Shore, Nantucket, and Martha’s Vineyard.

NOAA Fisheries announced Monday that no organizations have agreed to take on the role. The group issued a call for new network members earlier this year.

Mendy Garron, NOAA’s regional marine mammal stranding program coordinator, said the group’s response to stranded animal reports is “going to have to be more measured” without a member organization. Garron said NOAA is asking members of the public to report stranded animals they encounter.

Residents can report strandings by calling NOAA’s regional hotline at 866-755-6622. NOAA reminds residents to keep at least 150 feet from from a marine mammal.
