Road construction has started on Route 8 and Perkins Street in Smithfield and Norridgewock.
Work will begin on Route 8, in Smithfield, beginning at the intersection of Island Lane and extend 7.3 miles to U.S. Route 2 in Norridgewock. Perkins Street will begin at Route 8 and extend 0.53 of a mile to U.S. Route 2.
One-way traffic through the work zones will be directed by flaggers.
Work will include culvert replacements, underdrain and catch basin installation, ditching, grinding of the existing pavement, roadway excavation, gravel placement, new pavement, guardrail installation, curb replacement, water main installation and utility line replacement or transfer.
These improvements are necessary to make the road smoother and safer for the traveling public.
Pratt & Sons, Inc. of Mechanic Falls will perform this $10.4 million project.
