Dresden resident Jeffrey Pierce has declared his candidacy for state House of Representatives District 53.
Pierce, a Republican, does not face opposition in the June primary.
Rep. Peter Kent, D-Woolwich, has also filed papers seeking to represent District 53, which includes Dresden, Arrowsic, Georgetown, Phippsburg, Woolwich and part of Richmond. The two will face off in the general election in November.
Pierce is the owner of a construction and renovation general contracting business, founded the Alewife Harvesters of Maine in 2007, is the executive director of the Maine Elver Fishermen Association, and chairman of the Dresden Planning Board.
He cited maintaining a healthy environment, managing the state’s natural resources, expanding energy options and improving the educational system as priorities.
Pierce is married and has two sons.
