The Jordan Family Farm

Looking at an Alewive’s Brook Farm photo of 5-year-old Sam (Jodie Jordan’s nephew) selling veggies in his own little farm stand, reminded me of my 4-H vegetable stand in front of Dad’s store, Wilson’s, in Winthrop. But Sam is way ahead of me. I was 11 when I started my stand!

Jodie is a full time lobsterman and farmer, as well as a fireman and father, so you know how hard he works. But if you check out the farm’s website, you’ll notice tons of kids helping out. This is very much a family enterprise — and one worthy of our support.

Jodie’s daughter Caitlin, the farm manager, somehow finds time to serve on the Cape Elizabeth Town Council. And Caitlin says nephew Sam, who sat at our table and was incredibly well-behaved for a 5-year old, is “one of the hardest workers on the farm.”

John and Maura Kilgallen were seated at our table at the Sea Glass dinner, and said they’d been buying lobsters, turkeys and vegetables from this farm since 1970 when they moved to Maine. They raved about the Jordan family.

If you are in the Portland area, cross the bridge, take the short drive on Ocean House Road to Alewive’s Brook farm and indulge yourself. And say “hi” to the Jordans for us!
