MERCER — Jo-Ann C. and Vernon E. Worthen celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 28, 2013, at the Mercer Community Center in Mercer, at a party hosted by their children.

Vernon and Jo-Ann (Clement) were married in Mercer at the bride’s parents’ home on Sept. 28, 1963.

At their 50th anniversary party, everyone enjoyed a delicious potluck meal generously provided by family and friends. A three-tier cake with pink roses from Hillman’s bakery was the dessert. Musical entertainment was provided by friends and family of Vernon and Jo-Ann included their daughter Valerie Worthen on guitar, who sang special selections for them including “Daddy’s Hands.” Jo-Ann’s brother Mike Clement performed on guitar as well as Jo-Ann and Vernon’s grandson, Devin Christianson on trumpet. Many other friends and family also sang. Jo-Ann read a poem that she had written for Vernon in honor of their 50th anniversary. Rep. Paul Gilbert, District 87, presented Jo-Ann and Vernon with an official Legislative Sentiment in recognition of their 50th anniversary.

Jo-Ann was employed as a school secretary by SAD 54.

Vernon was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic.

Their children and families include daughter Sherri Christianson and husband Greg, of Seal Cove, with children Devin and Adam, daughter Valerie Worthen, of Mercer, and children Erika, Noelle and Kyle Hancock, and son Vernon Worthen II and wife Cindy, of Mercer, and their children Annie, Katie and Vernon III, and special baby Raiden.

Guests attended from Mercer, Norridgework, Smithfield, Skowhegan, Brunswick, Andover, Seal Cove and Waterville.
