FAIRFIELD — Two people were sent to the hospital after a two-car crash at the intersection of Middle Road and Route 139.

Jennifer Brown, 24, of Skowhegan, pulled her Pontiac into traffic and was struck by a northbound Chevy Cavalier shortly before 8 p.m., according to Fairfield police Sgt. Paul St. Amand.

Brown and a passenger in the Chevy, Brittany Loisel, 22, of Norridgewock, were taken to Thayer Center for Health by Delta Ambulance.

No update on their condition was available Wednesday night, but St. Amand said that neither injury appeared to be serious. Both Brown and Loisel were responsive, St. Amand said.

St. Amand said the cause of the accident wasn’t immediately known, but he suspected the weather may have played a part. It was raining heavily at the time.

“I’m sure weather may have been a factor, it just started to get dark,” he said.

Both the Chevy and the Pontiac were heavily damaged. Route 139 was closed to traffic for about a half hour as traffic was diverted down Middle Road. At about 8:30 p.m. traffic opened in one lane on Route 139.
