Richmond town manager Marian Anderson, has accepted the same post for the town of Wiscasset after five years on the job.

The Wiscasset Board of Selectmen appointed Anderson, who will start at her new position Aug. 18, at its Wednesday meeting.

Anderson and the Richmond selectmen were scheduled to meet Thursday to discuss how to handle her departure. Anderson said Thursday morning she didn’t know if they will be appointing an interim town manager before hiring a permanent replacement.

Anderson, who has been town manager in Richmond since 2009, described the new job as a personal career opportunity. She said the selectmen knew she was a finalist for the Wiscasset job for some time.

“It’s closer to my home, and it’s just a great opportunity for me, professionally,” said Anderson, who lives in Boothbay.

Selectman Clarence Cummins said the town will likely advertise the open position soon, but he will know more about the town’s next step after the meeting Thursday.

“She’s leaving for a better opportunity,” Cummins said Thursday afternoon. “She’s done a great job, as far as I’m concerned, in the town of Richmond. She’s been an excellent town manager, and I think she will do an excellent job in her new job.”

Anderson’s salary at Richmond is $72,000 a year, and she will be paid $78,000 a year in Wiscasset, according to the Lincoln County News.
