“TIPPY TOM” – Palermo

AUTHOR: Beverly Murdock

ILLUSTRATOR: Connie Bellet

BOOK: “More Adventures of Tippy Tom”

WHERE: Palermo Community Center, Turner Road, Palermo

WHEN: Saturday, 1-3 p.m.

It all started with bedtime stories that Beverly Murdock made up and told to her young children. They asked their mother to write down the stories, so they could introduce their own children to the adventuresome little Maine woodland elf named Tippy Tom. Finally, in her 80s, Murdock did write down the stories and engaged artist Connie Bellet of Palermo to illustrate them.

Murdock will be selling and signing her books. Bellet will also sign books.  Parents, grandparents and kids are all welcome to come and enjoy tea, cider and cookies, and maybe have Mrs. Murdock read a story. Pat Newell will be available to answer questions from aspiring writers. This event is hosted by the Living Communities Foundation. For more information or directions, please call Connie at 993-2294.

“WHAT TAIL?” – Windsor

AUTHOR: Roberta R. Barnes

BOOK: “What Tail?”

WHERE: Hussey’s General Store, Windsor

WHEN: Sunday, 12-3 p.m.

Author Roberta R. Barnes will be signing copies of her new children’s fantasy book. Set in the magical Annan Woods, “What Tail?” is the fascinating story of an animal called “Ve,” whose secret makes him unlike all other animals. Everyone forgets to remember what he looks like when he or she is not looking at him; they even forget to remember how long his tail is, or if he has a tail.

Despite his secret Ve tries to make friends with a little girl named Misty, a fox called Silver Tip, a weasel called Wolvie, a very wise old owl and a few others. This leads to the most unexpected adventures, which teach children the value in not judging and extending kindness to others.

Through her book, Barnes hopes young readers experience the fun in using their own imagination and in the process see that one’s actions are more important than appearances.

Barnes is Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki Kai Shihan and an herbalist. She founded the Natural Healing & Learning Center in Windsor in 2002.
