Gift cards and checks may have been stolen from mailboxes on River and Meadow roads in Topsham, police said.

Topsham Police said in a posting on the department’s Facebook page that Christmas cards may have been taken from opened mailboxes and searched for gift cards, cash and checks and then stuffed into other mailboxes or thrown out.

Police did not say when the mail may have been stolen.

The police asked residents to check with their families and friends about gift cards, cash or checks that may have been mailed.

Topsham Police asked anyone with any information about the incident to contact the department at 725-4337. Mail theft may also be reported to the Postal Inspector Service at 1-877-876-2455, option 3.
