A Chesterville man was arrested late Thursday on a slew charges in connection with an assault and resisting police, authorities said.

Scott Lagace, 21, of Chesterville, allegedly became combative with Franklin County deputies, refusing to submit to arrest, according to a news release from Sheriff Scott Nichols. Lagace eventually was put in the cruiser, where he banged his head against the window, Nichols said.

Deputies were concerned he was going to cause himself more injury, so he was removed from the cruiser and put in leg irons and then taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital by ambulance, Nichols said.

Deputies went to 134 Vienna Road in Chesterville about 9:30 p.m. Thursday after a report of an assault.

“Upon arrival they encountered two couples that had been consuming alcohol and had obviously been involved in some sort of altercation because of the damage to the residence and injuries to individuals,” Nichols said.

Lagace allegedly had assaulted his girlfriend and others who were at their party and was arrested. He continued to be belligerent and confrontational toward police, Nichols said.

Lagace was treated for minor injuries and taken to jail where he was charged with nine separate charges: domestic violence assault, with one prior, a class C felony; criminal mischief; criminal restraint; furnishing liquor to a minor; assault, two counts; refusing to submit to arrest or detention; and disorderly conduct, all misdemeanors. Lagace also was charged with assault on an officer, class C felony.

Lagace was held pending an initial appearance at court.
