AUGUSTA — Maine Right to Life is hosting its “Hands Around the Capitol Memorial” event.
Executive Director Teresa McCann-Tumidajski calls the annual event protesting the Supreme Court Roe v Wade decision that legalized abortion “the largest pro-life gathering in the state.”
Republican Gov. Paul LePage and Congressman Bruce Poliquin were among Saturday’s participants.
Tumidajski said the number of abortions is declining but that anti-abortion advocates will not rest until each baby is protected from what he calls “the horror” of abortion.
The Roe v Wade decision came down on Jan. 22, 1973. Planned Parenthood of Northern New England says it’s important to resist efforts to restrict abortions. Spokeswoman Nicole Clegg says a decision to have an abortion should be up to a woman with counsel from her health care provider, family and faith.
