James Marr, who unsuccessfully sought a seat on the Readfield Select Board, won a three-year term representing the town on the board of Regional School Unit 38 Maranacook Area Schools by a write-in vote.

Readfield Town Clerk Robin Lint said Thursday that Marr has accepted the post.

Marr, 50, works as a consultant advising franchisees for HOA, a national restaurant company. Before that he spent 12 years as a regional vice president with Friendly’s Ice Cream. Marr also helped raise more than $1 million for Easter Seals over the past decade. His campaign to become a selectman was the first time he sought public office.

Marr said Thursday he has two children in the Maranacook school system. He will fill the post of David Greenham, who did not seek re-election.

Lint said two seats on the Readfield School Committee, an advisory board, have yet to be filled.

Marr will begin his term July 1.
