MONTVILLE – Police say they arrested a Montville man who painted his face black and green before smashing the windshield of a neighbor’s car and declaring himself “a warrior.”

Police say they received a 911 call on July 7 from a neighbor complaining that 57-year-old John Thornton was smashing the windshield with a walking stick and yelling threats. The neighbor also said Thornton appeared to be wearing face paint.

Police say Thornton acted aggressive and disorderly when they responded to his home and asked him about the damage to the car. He also “proclaimed that he was a warrior.”

Police charged him with disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and assault.

A reporter’s call to Thornton’s home was unanswered. It was unclear on Tuesday if he had an attorney.
