HALLOWELL — Spectrum Generations will sponsor a free, four-day leader training for the Living Well for Better Health Chronic Disease Self-Management workshop series. Training is set for 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Sept. 17, 18, 24 and 25 at Cohen Community Center.

The program is a series of six, two-and-a-half hour classes held once a week for six weeks. People with different chronic health problems attend together. Program participants demonstrate significant improvements in symptom management, communication, exercise, general health, fatigue, disability and social/role activities limitations, according to a news release from the center.

The workshop is led by pairs of leaders who have chronic health conditions themselves, or take care of someone with a chronic condition. The leaders follow a structured workshop outline that builds the confidence of participants to manage their own health condition.

Spectrum Generations provides ongoing support and class materials to trained leaders. Characteristics necessary to become a leader include being comfortable facilitating and speaking in front of groups. Once training is completed, leaders then co-facilitate one or more workshops within six months.
