WATERVILLE — The Kennebec Valley Community Action Program, United Way of Mid-Maine, and Alfond Youth Center are partnering to collect school supplies for children in need. The goal is to fill 500 backpacks with donated items, to distribute to children throughout Kennebec and Somerset counties.

Community members are invited to join the effort by donating new school supplies to help fill the backpacks. Items can be delivered to KVCAP in Waterville or Skowhegan, the United Way of Mid-Maine, or the Alfond Youth Center. The deadline for donations is Friday, July 31.

The team will also hold a “Stuff the Bus” event at Wal-Mart in Skowhegan fro 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, July 30. During this time the public is invited to bring their donated items to help fill the bus with all of the essential items kids need at the start of the new school year.
