On the season finale of “The Bachelorette” Monday night, 29-year-old dancer Kaitlyn Bristowe accepted a marriage proposal from 28-year-old personal trainer Shawn Booth, naming him the winner of the season. Minutes earlier, she dumped the runner-up, 34-year-old software sales executive Nick Viall, who angrily left in a limo ride of shame.

This was all very dramatic and surprising – except for the fact that it wasn’t at all, because Kaitlyn actually spoiled the results of the show online weeks ago.

In mid-June, Kaitlyn seemingly accidentally posted a 10-second video to Snapchat that showed her lounging in bed with Shawn. The video was quickly deleted from the app, but people captured screengrabs. ABC wouldn’t comment on the video, and when asked about it later, Kaitlyn coyly joked that she had actually been in bed with Ryan Gosling.

That’s likely because ABC generally goes to great lengths to ensure that the “Bachelor” and “Bachelorette” seasons, taped months in advance of when the show actually airs, go unspoiled. Though “Bachelor” and “Bachelorette” spoilers have floated around the Internet for years (there’s an entire website devoted to exposing the results of the show), this is the first time that an accidental spoiler went so mainstream.
