A golf tournament to support the Capital Area Recreation Association is celebrating its 20th year, and community members can contribute to the program through an online auction, according to a news release from the group.

The association was founded 40 years ago by volunteers and the complex on the city’s west side has baseball and softball fields, a horseshoe complex, a basketball court, a lacrosse field and soccer fields. The group provides opportunities for more than 1,000 children per year, is run by volunteers and is not funded by the city. The golf tournament, set for Sunday, is the group’s major fundraiser, along with the auction.

The auction, which features heating oil, firewood, restaurant gift certificates, hotel rooms and more is open to the public Saturday through Monday and can be found at cara-maine.org. All proceeds benefit local children.
