A New Portland man was charged with drunken driving Wednesday night after he rolled his pickup truck into some trees in Embden.

Doreal Baker, 73, was driving his 2015 GMC Sierra pickup truck on Route 16 just south of Katie Crotch Road shortly after 7:30 p.m. when he lost control on a curve in the road and rolled over, striking several trees, according to a narrative of the crash provided by the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

Baker was partially ejected from the passenger side of the vehicle during the crash, according to the sheriff’s office. He was taken to Redington-Fairview General Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, the sheriff’s office said. The pickup was destroyed.

Deputies Toby Blodgett and Zachary Tracy, as well as the Anson, Madison and New Portland fire departments and the Madison-Anson ambulance service responded to reports of the crash.

Speed and alcohol appeared to be factors in the crash, police said, and Baker was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and violating conditions of release.
