WATERVILLE — Tyler Dubois headed in an Alex Guiou corner kick with 21 minutes left to lift the Hall-Dale boys soccer team past Mountain Valley 2-1 on Wednesday night at Thomas College for its third consecutive Mountain Valley Conference championship.

Andrew Peterson made seven saves in net for the Bulldogs (12-0-2), who also beat the Falcons in last year’s conference championship.

Hall-Dale out-shot Mountain Valley, 15-11. Jake Beauchesne made nine saves for the Falcons (12-2-0).

“I thought we played a very solid 80-minute game,” Hall-Dale coach Andy Haskell said. “The first three or four minutes, Mountain Valley pressured us a little bit and then we started to take control of the first half and started to have a few more opportunities.”

The Bulldogs recovered after missing a golden opportunity on a penalty kick with about 24 minutes left in the first half, thanks in part to Peterson and a defense that ended the regular season with six straight shutouts.

“Our defense was outstanding,” Haskell said. “Peterson was solid in net. We got a nice game from Nate Mills and our back four of Quinn Stebbins, Alex and Nick Guiou and Jett Boyer was solid.”

The Bulldogs ended the regular season with 11 straight wins and will be the top seed in the Class C South playoffs, earning a bye to the quarterfinals. They host the winner of Saturday’s preliminary round game between No. 8 Lisbon and No. 9 Traip Academy at 3 p.m. next Wednesday.
