NEWPORT — Newport Police are looking for a local man who allegedly assaulted his live-in girlfriend and her young son at their mobile home on Sunday.

Coty Kelso, 26, of 44 Willow Drive, Newport, allegedly struck the woman in the chest with his fist at about 2 p.m. Sunday. He also allegedly threw her son into a wall. Neither victim went to the hospital, according to Newport Police Chief Leonard MacDaid.

Kelso left on foot prior to the arrival of police, but reportedly returned at about 10 p.m. Sunday and attempted to kick in the front door to the mobile home before again leaving, MacDaid said. He is described as being a white male with brown hair and hazel eyes, standing 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds.

When located he will be arrested and charged with two counts of domestic violence assault, MacDaid said. Kelso also has an active warrant for unpaid fines.

Kelso is known to frequent the Greenville area and parts of Somerset County, MacDaid said.

Police are asking for the public’s help and ask that anyone with information on the whereabouts of Kelso call the Newport Police Department at 368-3263.
