CATONSVILLE, Md. — Jairus Lyles scored 27 points, Rodney Elliott had 21, and Maryland-Baltimore County defeated Maine 89-76 in men’s basketball on Saturday.

Joe Sherburne added 14 points and Will Darley had 10 rebounds for the Retrievers (5-12, 1-1 American East).

Lyles made 10 of 14 shots, had seven rebounds, four steals and three assists. Elliott went 13 of 14 from the foul line and dished eight assists.

Troy Reid-Knight hit four 3s and had 18 points for the Black Bears (4-11, 0-2).

UMBC was up two at the half but used an 11-3 run to make it 58-50 with 12:02 to play. Reid-Knight pulled the Black Bears back into a tie with a 3-pointer at 9:33 but the Retrievers responded with a 16-3 run started by Lyles’ five points.

UMBC shot 59 percent from the field and made 24 of 29 from the foul line and Maine was 4 of 8 from the line.

BOWDOIN 84, BATES 77: Lucas Hausman scored 42 points to lead the Polar Bears (8-4, 1-1 NESCAC) to a victory over Bates (8-6, 1-1) in Lewiston.

Hausman nailed a jumper for a 78-75 lead with 56 seconds left. When Mike Boornazian’s 3-point attempt at the other end rimmed out, Hausman corralled the rebound and was fouled with 40 seconds to go. He sank one of the two free throws, then made both on Bowdoin’s next possession, to give the Polar Bears an 81-75 lead with 28 seconds left.

Boornazian scored 20 for Bates, while Malcolm Delpeche 13 points and 10 rebounds.

USM 71, KEENE STATE 70: Omar Haji-Hersi scored the go-ahead basket as the host Huskies (7-6, 1-2 Little East) used a 17-5 run to take a 57-54 lead over Keene State (8-4, 1-2) with 8:22 left.

The Owls pulled to within one point eight times, including twice in the final 1:08, but Southern Maine countered each time.

Atencio Martin scored 22 points for the Huskies. Jose Nouchanthavog had 18.

UNE 85, SALVE REGINA 68: Reserve Gavin Dibble scored 15 of his 20 points in the second half as the Nor’easters (8-4, 3-2 Commonwealth Coast) cruised past the Seahawks (5-8, 2-4) at Newport, Rhode Island.

UNE used a 12-4 run in the first five minutes of the second half to open a 51-36 lead.

Devin Thompson also had 20 points for the Nor’easters.

TUFTS 92, COLBY 65: Vincent Pace led the Jumbos (11-2, 2-0 NESCAC) with 22 points, Ryan Spadaford sank five 3-pointers and finished with 21 points, and Tom Palleschi added 19 points against Colby (10-3, 0-2) in Medford, Massachusetts.

Colby was led by 21 points from Ryan Jann and 14 from Pat Dickert.

SMCC 85, COLLEGE OF ST. JOSEPH 70: John Morgan scored 10 points and Ville Wuorenjuuri had nine off the bench in the first half as Southern Maine CC (7-12, 4-4 YSCC) opened a 46-21 lead over the Saints (8-5, 4-1) in Rutland, Vermont.

Morgan and Matt Talbot scored 18 apiece for the Seawolves.

ALBERTUS MAGNUS 56, ST. JOSEPH’S 52: Shontaey Lovell scored 12 of his game-high 16 points in the second half to lead the Falcons (8-2, 5-1) over the Monks (4-9, 1-5) in a come-from-behind victory in Standish.

Trailing 39-22 at halftime, Albertus Magnus used a 25-8 run to tie it with 8:38 remaining. The Falcons took their first lead of the second half on a Jaqhawn Walter layup with 59 seconds left.

Quinn Richardson-Newton had 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Monks.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

USM 65, KEENE STATE 59: Alexa Srolovitz’s 3-pointer gave the Huskies (7-6, 2-1 LEC) a 56-53 lead with 2:26 left, and host Southern Maine held on for an upset of Keene State (11-1, 2-1).

Gretchen Anderson added a field goal, and Kayla Stacy and Ella Ramonas combined to make five of six free throws in the final seconds for the Huskies.

USM, trailing 45-28 with 2:23 left in the third quarter, got seven points each from Anderson and Ramonas in a 19-0 run.

Ramonas finished with 23 points and Anderson 16.

UNE 76, SALVE REGINA 42: The Nor’easters (8-3, 5-0 CCC) had a 32-5 run during the first half and easily got past the host Seahawks (4-9, 3-3).

Olivia Shaw and Alanna Vose each scored 13 points for UNE. Brooke Flaherty had 12 points, while Lauren Hayden added 11 points, six boards four steals and three assists.

ST. JOSEPH’S 83, ALBERTUS MAGNUS 71: Kelsi McNamara scored 21 of her 25 points in the second and third quarters, as the Monks (9-3, 1-0 GNAC) outscored Albertus Magnus (6-6, 0-2) by eight in each of the middle periods to take a 67-52 lead at Standish.

Morgan Cahill added 14 points for St. Joseph’s, and Brianne Maloney had 11.

BOWDOIN 72, BATES 55: Marle Curle sank two 3-pointers as the Polar Bears (10-3, 1-1 NESCAC) used a 9-0 run late in the second quarter to open a lead and Bowdoin pulled away from Bates (3-9, 0-2) at home.

Shannon Brady led the Polar Bears with 24 points.

Nina Davenport’s 17 led Bates.

COLLEGE OF ST. JOSEPH 60, SMCC 56: Arreonte Anderson made four free throws as St. Joseph (10-1, 5-0 YSCC) converted six straight foul shots in the final minutes of play to hold off the Seawolves (14-4, 5-3) at Rutland, Vermont.

Kendra Kagiliery’s 14 points led SMCC.

TUFTS 54, COLBY 45: Michela North scored 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead 14th-ranked Tufts (11-2, 2-0 NESCAC) over the the Mules (8-4, 1-1) at Waterville.

Tufts outscored Colby 34-22 in the second half.

Desi Smith scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds for Colby, while Carlyanne Wolfington added 11 points.

MEN’S HOCKEY

COLBY 5, AMHERST 2: Colin Reilly, Mario Benicky and Devin Albert each scored third-period goals as the Mules (5-5-3, 3-4-1 NESCAC) pulled away from a 2-2 second-period tie with Amherst (3-5-4, 2-2-3) in Waterville.

Albert’s goal in the third period was his third of the game.

HAMILTON 4, BOWDOIN 2: Robbie Murden scored twice in the second, and the Continentals (8-3-1, 4-2-1 NESCAC) used two unanswered tallies in the third to win at Bowdoin (4-6-2, 2-4-2).

Tyler Bruneteau scored the tiebreaker at 9:52 of the third.

Mitch Barrington and Chris Wallace scored for Bowdoin.

CASTLETON 5, USM 1: The Spartans (2-12-1, 1-6-1 New England Hockey) scored the final three goals and downed the Huskies (5-9-1, 2-7) at Gorham.

Chad O’Brien scored a power-play goal for Southern Maine.

UNE 3, SKIDMORE 2: Brady Fleurent re-directed a shot by Dylan Bengston with 2:18 left to give the Nor’easters (8-4-1, 4-4-1 NEHC) a win over Skidmore (3-11-1, 3-5) at Biddeford.

UNE took a 2-0 lead on goals by Blaise Healy and Ryan Quinn before Skidmore rallied.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

MAINE 3, VERMONT 3: Vermont’s Bridget Baker scored her second goal of the game with 1:17 left in the third, helping the Catamounts (5-16-1, 3-8-1 Hockey East) net a tie with the Black Bears (7-13-2, 3-9-1) at Orono.

Cassidy Herman, Brooke Stacey and Morgan Sakundiak scored for Maine.

BOWDOIN 3, WILLIAMS 2: Marissa Fichter scored with 2:39 left to lift Bowdoin (4-5, 2-2 NESCAC) over the Ephs (6-4, 4-2) at Williamstown, Massachusetts.

Goals by Miranda Bell and Fichter gave the Polar Bears a 2-1 lead in the second. Chelsey Stevenson tied it in the third.

COLBY 6, WESLEYAN 3: Sasha Fritts, Delaney Flynn, Mikayla McLaughlin and Bre Davis scored in the first to give Colby (4-6-2, 2-3-1 NESCAC) a 4-0 lead at Wesleyan (3-7, 1-3).
