Tall Ships Portland, the organization that brought the stately sailing vessels to Portland last summer, scooped up two of the five major awards at an international tall ships conference held in Quebec City from Thursday through Saturday.

The group won the sail training and education award for sponsoring a group of 17 Portland teens who spent a week training on four tall ships last summer, and the favorite port award, an award voted on by tall-ship crew members.

Alex Agnew, president of Sailing Ships Portland, the group’s local nonprofit arm that promotes sail training, was at the Quebec International Sail Training and Tall Ships Conference 2016 conference to accept the awards.
