A Westbrook man was cited for driving infractions after he lost control of his car Saturday afternoon and smashed into two utility poles near downtown Gorham, police said.
Gorham police Officer Ted Hatch said the crash demolished one of the utility poles and damaged the other. Four street signs were also knocked down in the incident, Hatch said.
Shawn McAlpine, 26, told police that he was reaching for something on his car’s passenger seat as he was heading through the intersection of Main Street and Gray Road. He lost control of the car, he told police.
McAlpine was summonsed for imprudent speed and failure to maintain control of a vehicle, Hatch said.
No one was hurt in the crash, which occurred about 3:20 p.m.
The intersection was shut down until utility crews could replace the shattered pole. Hatch said the intersection wasn’t expected to be reopened until late Saturday.
