A radio entrepreneur based in West Bath has picked up two more stations to add to his collection of memory stations, an eclectic mix of music that evokes “warm and cozy” memories.

Bob Bittner, who owns and operates three radio stations, purchased WLAM-AM 1470 in Lewiston-Auburn and WLVP-AM 870 in Greater Portland, according to a statement from Bittner released Monday.

Because both stations have directional antennae and serve their own markets, they have historically broadcast the same programming, which Bittner said he will continue. He bought the stations from Binnie Media of Portland, owner of Frank FM, WFNK-FM 107 and the Wolf, WTHT-FM 99.9, for an undisclosed price.

Playlists will reflect Bittner’s other stations, which play the hits of the 1940s through the 1980s. Bittner said while his flagship station, WJTO-AM and FM, plays hits plus album tracks and instrumentals, the two new stations will play solely hits.

In March, Bittner will be adding two one-day-per-week music formats to WLAM and WLVP. Every Friday, will feature an expanded rock ‘n’ roll format and on Saturday, there will be country oldies, offering music from artists such as Bob Wills, Loretta Lynn, Kitty Wells, Johnny Cash, Crystal Gayle, the Statler Brothers, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson.

In addition to his flagship station, Bittner also operates WJIB-AM 740 in Boston and WJYE-AM 1280 in central Maine.

His stations do not air ads, but are supported through fundraising campaigns.
