Authorities have arrested two Madison men and charged them in connection with a fire that destroyed a house and garage at Pease Hill Road last week.

Sgt. Joel Davis, of the Office of Maine State Fire Marshal, said Sunday that officers from the department executed a search warrant at 459 Main St. in Madison Saturday night and arrested Dylan Almon Brown, 23, and Deyon Kitchin, 19, on multiple charges including arson, burglary and theft.

According to Davis, officers recovered items from the residence that were allegedly taken from the building before the fire.

The fire, reported at approximately 6 a.m. on Feb. 24, destroyed the single-family residence and garage at 394 Pease Hill Road.

At the time, officials said the building was a seasonal residence, and the owners were out of state at the time of the fire. The building was unoccupied. There were no injuries reported in the fire.

Last week, an investigator from the fire marshal’s office said the fire appeared to have started in the garage, where a family vehicle and tractor were stored, and spread to the house. The building was totally destroyed in the blaze.

Davis said more information on the arrests would be available Monday morning, and other people may be charged in connection with the fire.

Brown and Kitchin were both charged with two counts of arson and single charges of burglary, theft by unauthorized taking or transfer and aggravted criminal mischief. Arson is a Class A felony that carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
