Bernie Sanders often mentions how he had opposed the Bush/Cheney invasion of Iraq. He had accurately predicted just what would happen following their planned regime change. Today we see that devastation: Iraq’s infrastructure smashed, its services, water and electric, and its schools, hospitals, libraries mere skeletons of their past splendor. There are close to a million dead, including thousands of children, and many millions of Iraqis displaced.
Yes, Saddam was a cruel dictator in keeping his countrymen in line, but his nation was at peace. He had even been our ally some years earlier during the Iran/Iraq war. Following his execution, ISIS was born. We now have a severely devastated nation, an extremely violent terrorist organization and further failed attempts at regime change. Won’t we ever learn?
