A Troy woman is homeless after a fire Wednesday heavily damaged her Alley Lane mobile home, according to the Troy fire chief.
Tammy Knowlton was at her brother’s house on the same property around 6 p.m. Wednesday and when she returned home her house, a double wide mobile home, was on fire, said Troy Fire Chief Daniel Nealley Thursday night.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Nealley would not comment when asked whether the fire is considered suspicious.
“It was heavily damaged with smoke and water,” Nealley said. “It’s still standing, but there’s severe damage inside.”
There were no injuries reported and her cat was found safe.
Firefighters from Burnham, Thorndike, Troy and Unity were on scene for about an hour and a half, Nealley said.
Knowlton does have insurance and the Red Cross is also assisting her.
