CLINTON — Residents voted to approve the proposed town budget of $2.48 million during a referendum on Tuesday. Vote numbers were unavailable Tuesday night.

Residents also approved a measure allowing selectmen to draw from the undesignated fund balance to reduce what needs to be raised from property taxes, as well as a proposal to increase the property tax levy limit but not to exceed $250,000.

The proposal to replace the Highway Department with a highway maintenance contractor was also approved, 273-67.

The budget is a 0.09 percent increase from last year’s budget of $2.26 million.

Increases in town salaries and insurance costs contributed to the extra $210,662 in the budget this year, as well as more money for snowplowing so the town can put out to bid when its current snowplowing contract ends, according to Town Manager Pamela Violette.
