GARDINER — Jerks of Grass will perform at 6 p.m. Friday, July 15, at Johnson Hall’s Free Summer Waterfront Concert Series in Gardiner’s Waterfront Park.

Jerks of Grass is made up of Jason Phelps on guitar, mandolin; Melissa Bragdon on fiddle; Carter Loganon banjo, dobro, guitar; and Kris Day on upright bass, electric bass, guitar.

They are a high-energy bluegrass quartet from Portland. Gathered around one microphone in the traditional style, over the past decade New England’s Jerks of Grass have become a formidable purveyor of their own brand of bluegrass music. With one foot in the traditional and the other in progressive roots music, the band has forged a sound all their own.

Priding themselves on tight arrangements, stellar musicianship, and an ability to delight even the most suspicious of audiences, they have remained one of the area’s busiest acts for more than ten years, according to a news release from Johnson Hall.
