A 46-year-old Lewiston man has been arrested in connection with an assault and robbery Saturday afternoon at The Vault, an upscale Lewiston wine shop.

Arthur Bush is being held on $100,000 cash bail at the Androscoggin County Jail.

According to the store’s owner, Keith Tannenbaum, Bush entered the store, waited until other shoppers left and attacked the lone employee behind the counter with an object, cutting her face and head.

Bush then allegedly took money from the clerk’s wallet, Tannenbaum said. He declined to identify the weapon used.

“People definitely had an odd feeling about him, that he didn’t belong here,” Tannenbaum said. “The person working tried to help him with some wine selections. He waited until he was alone and ended up attacking her.”

The clerk, whom Tannenbaum did not identify, is in a lot of pain but is expected to make a full recovery. Tannenbaum credited the Lewiston police for making a swift arrest.

“They did a fantastic job about working this case and I could not be more appreciative,” Tannenbaum said. “The community support has been wonderful. People have been nothing but supportive.”
