WATERVILLE — Toast Xpress, a restaurant that opened last fall at Railroad Square, has closed after 10 months in business.

The restaurant specialized in French-toast breakfasts with thick slices of bread toasted and spread with a variety of toppings.

Owner Cindy Scott opened Toast Xpress Sept. 29 at 10 Railroad Square in a space that formerly housed Glass Express, a business that had been there for many years.

Scott gutted and renovated the interior, and the restaurant seated 60 people when it opened.

A call placed to Scott on Tuesday was not returned. A call placed Monday to Big G’s partners, who own 50 percent of the business, also was not returned.

The restaurant was closed Tuesday, with a sign on the door that says the 1,150-square-foot former restaurant space is available, and listing a phone number.

Another sign says: “With great regret we have decided to close Toast Xpress. This is a business decision. We appreciate the patronage of our many wonderful customers. We will miss you. Cindy Scott & Staff.”

The sign also says that people who have gift certificates to Toast Xpress should call 314-1730 to be reimbursed.
