Two people were arrested Friday and charged with trafficking heroin and cocaine after the execution of a search warrant on Riverside Drive in Augusta.

Officials from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency said Reuben W. Givens, 43, of Bronx, N.Y., and Amy Perkins, 41, of Augusta, were arrested following a monthlong investigation that included the undercover purchase of both heroin and crack cocaine.

MDEA officials weren’t immediately available for comment on Saturday.

Givens is charged with class A aggravated trafficking in Schedule W drugs (heroin and cocaine). The charges were aggravated because of Givens’ history of drug-related felonies and the weight of the drugs seized. He is being held at the Kennebec County jail, where his bail was set at $80,000 cash.

Perkins is charged with class A aggravated trafficking in Schedule W drugs (heroin and cocaine). The charges against Perkins are aggravated because the weight of the drugs seized. She is being held at the Kennebec County jail, where her bail was set at $20,000.

During the search, 2 ounces of heroin, 19 grams of cocaine base and about $1,700 believed to be the proceeds of the sale of illegal drugs were seized. The street value of the drugs is estimated at $20,000.

The investigation was a cooperative effort of the MDEA’s South Central Task Force in Augusta, the Augusta Police Department, the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine State Police.
