POLAND — Authorities are investigating an incident in which all 20 golf carts at a golf course were set ablaze.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office ruled that the fire Wednesday at the Summit Spring Golf Course in Poland was intentionally set. A neighbor had reported hearing a crackling sound.

Thirteen of the cars were leased by Summit Spring from the Gorham Country Club. Seven were owned by members. Officials say some type of accelerant was used to spark the flames.

Course manager Mary Rich estimates the value of each cart at $2,500 to $3,500. Front windows on the clubhouse were also cracked.

Rich told the Sun Journal of Lewiston that the incident is the golf course’s third serious act of vandalism since the spring.
