Augusta police on Wednesday arrested a Farmingdale man on drug charges after a short foot chase on Civic Center Drive, according to a press release from the Augusta Police Department.

Zachary Carey, 21, of Farmingdale, was wanted for questioning in relation to an incident earlier in the month and began running away from police when they approached him about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday near Wendy’s on Civic Center Drive. During the foot chase, Carey discarded several packages of heroin and crack, police said. He was also carrying a large amount of money, which was seized as possible drug money.

Carey was charged with refusing to submit to arrest and aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs. Bail was set at $5,000.

Augusta police said a community member called them to say Carey was in the area, and police cited the arrest as an example of cooperation between police and citizens to crack down on drugs.
