A man and a woman from Augusta were injured in an accident Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 295 in Freeport.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Jonathan Blum, 24, and his passenger, Kayla Littlefield, 21, were riding on Blum’s Harley-Davidson motorcycle around 4:40 p.m., when he apparently failed to slow enough for northbound traffic backing up in front of them; the motorcycle went into a side skid and crashed.

Both were taken to Maine Medical Center. On Wednesday night, a hospital spokesman said Littlefield was admitted and was in fair condition, and Blum was treated and was in the process of being released shortly after 9 p.m.

According to the News, Maine State Police Trooper Jon Russell said if they had not been wearing helmets, it might have been a fatal crash.
