Three people were hurt — including an 8-year-old girl — Tuesday night when a car hit an SUV head-on at 7:20 p.m. on the Route 3 bridge in Augusta, according to Augusta police.

A 22-year-old man from China was driving a Chevrolet sedan when he lost control and his car crossed the centerline and hit the SUV, which was driven by a 32-year-old woman from Mount Vernon, police said. The 8-year-old girl was a passenger in the SUV.

All three were taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center for treatment, where the woman and the girl were treated and released, according to police. The man is being treated for serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police said speed and the icy conditions are believed to be factors in the crash, which continues to be investigated. Police said they could not provide the names of those involved in the crash because the report has yet to be completed.
