No injuries were reported after a Winslow school bus carrying children went off the road Thursday afternoon and into a ditch.

The bus accident was reported about 3:30 p.m. at the corner of Danielle and Benton avenues, in Benton, which is about 2 miles away from Winslow schools. Five children and th bus driver were on the bus, according to emergency dispatches.

Responding to the accident were Fairfield police, Maine State Police and rescue crews, as well as a wrecker.

By 3:45 p.m., the children and driver had left the scene, where the bus could be seen upright with its front end sticking out onto Benton Avenue and its back end in the ditch. The front right wheel of the bus was hanging in the air.

No further information was immediately available from Maine State Police, which is handling the case, or from school officials. Winslow schools are part of the Alternative Organizational Structure 92 district, which also includes Waterville and Vassalboro.
