MADISON — Allison Dean, of Madison, a Madison Area Memorial High School senior, has been selected to receive the 2017 Principal’s Award, according to a news release from Principal Jessica Ward.

Dean is the daughter of Charlene and Randy Dean, of Madison.

The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement, citizenship and leadership.

Dean is a dedicated student, a student body leader, and an involved citizen at the high school. She challenges herself academically with honors and AP classes, as well as independent projects that benefit the school. She is a senior mentor to freshmen, an active participant in the civil rights team and a leader in student government. She has won two scholarships for her outstanding dedication to community service and she is completing an internship at the Madison Town Office, according to the release.

Dean plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono and major in accounting.

She received the Maine Top Scholar Award from UMaine, which is a full-tuition scholarship given to the top 20 students that apply, based on academic excellence and community service and engagement.

Dean will attend the Maine Principals Association honors luncheon with Ward on Saturday, April 1, at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor. At this event Dean will be presented with an individual plaque and will be entered to win a $1,000 scholarship from the association.
