WATERVILLE — Kaylyn Trussell, a 2017 Waterville Senior High School graduate, was named the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce‘s 2017 Joseph B. Ezhaya scholarship winner, according to a chamber news release.

Trussell spends her time volunteering at Notre Dame Church and Sacred Heart Church cleaning, helped in first- and fifth-grade classes at Benton Elementary School, walked dogs and tended to cats at the Humane Society Waterville Area, assisted in night classes at Mid-Maine Adult Ed and tutored high school students and mental disabled women in her afternoons. She participated in many extracurricular activities such as pep band, key club, student ambassador, varsity soccer and was the captain of the intramural volleyballs team and the varsity basketball team.

She plans to attend Saint Joseph’s College of Maine in the fall to study nursing.

The annual scholarship was established in memory of Joe Ezhaya, a community leader who was known for his generosity and dedication to civic engagement, according to the release.

This $750 annual scholarship will be distributed to the recipient after the completion of her first semester with a grade point averea of 2.0 or higher and will be given for up to four years.
