About a hundred RSU 9 students, parents and residents rallied on Main Street in Farmington Monday afternoon, urging voters in the sprawling district of 10 towns to reject the latest budget to be voted on in referendum.

The $32.7 million package includes cuts of nearly a million dollars, which may result in a reduction in staff. A half-million dollar cut in the special education budget threatens government funding.

Those who support the reduced budget are critical of what they term relentless increases and a failure on the part of the school administration to listen to their concerns.

Residents in Chesterville, Farmington, Industry, New Sharon, New Vineyard, Starks, Temple, Vienna, Weld and Wilton will vote on the issue Tuesday.
