An exhibit of abstract paintings by Gardiner artist Matt Demers will be on display through Nov. 31 at Gibbs Library, 40 OldUnion Road, in Washington.

Growing up in rural Maine, Demers has been creating for as long as he can remember. Primarily self-taught, he uses a wide variety of mediums and techniques often on unique surfaces. His background as a graphic designer, sign maker, embroiderer, screen printer, gravedigger and antique dealer influences his work visually and conceptually.

Library hours are 4-7 p.m. Monday, 9 a.m. to noon and 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, 3-6 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, and 2-5 p.m. Sunday.
