The Third Maine Infantry, Civil War re-enactors, will help honor those who have served in the U.S. Armed Services during a Readfield history walk on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

Participants should gather by 10 a.m. at the Readfield Corner Cemetery, Church Road, for a special remembrance of some Third Maine soldiers whose memorials and graves are there.

From the cemetery the Third Maine fife and drummers will lead the way to Gile Hall for a closing ceremony at 11 a.m. in honor of all veterans. All are invited to march along or follow in a vehicle. Antique cars or trucks would be welcome.

Veterans, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are encouraged to participate and to wear their uniforms. The Third Maine will give two musket volleys along the way, at the cemetery and outside Gile Hall.

Following the ceremony, a free soup, bread and dessert luncheon will be served in Gile Hall compliments of the Readfield United Methodist Church. Tom Giordano will provide music during lunch. Capt. Matt Bray of the Third Maine will share information about the regiment during that time.

All are welcome to join in for this remembrance and honoring of those who have served in the U.S. Armed Services. Parking will be available at the Old Fairgrounds parking lot or in the north end of the cemetery. Please invite all veterans.

The event, planned by members of the Readfield Historical Society, Selectboard, Cemetery Committee and Readfield United Methodist Church.
