Met Opera ENCORE: “Rossini’s Semiramide,” a high definition re-broadcast from New York’s Metropolitan Opera, will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, at Strand Theatre, 345 Main St., Rockland.
This masterpiece of dazzling vocal fireworks makes a rare Met appearance — its first in nearly 25 years — with Maurizio Benini on the podium. The all-star bel canto cast features Angela Meade in the title role of the murderous Queen of Babylon, who squares off in breathtaking duets with Arsace, a trouser role sung by Elizabeth DeShong. Javier Camarena, Ildar Abdrazakov and Ryan Speedo Green complete the stellar cast.
Estimated run time is four hours, including one 30-minute intermission.
Sung in Italian with Met titles in English.
Tickets cost $23 for adults, $5 for students 18 and younger, and college students with ID. Tickets are available at the box office 30 minutes prior to show.
