AUGUSTA — Capital Area Technical Center recently announced its February Students of the Month.

Marlaina Stickney is a senior from Gardiner Area High School enrolled in the Certified Nursing Assistant program.

Her instructor, Bethany Sherman said in a news release from the center, “Marlaina’s work is always top notch. She shines at her clinical experiences and is a natural leader in class.

Outside of her academic classes, Stickney has played field hockey, softball and was a member of the winter cheer squad. She can be found working at Fielder’s Choice in Manchester. In the fall, Stickney plans to attend the University of Southern Maine with the goal of becoming a nurse.

Jake Whitley is a senior from Cony High School enrolled in the Law Enforcement Academy program.

His instructor, Peter Couture said, “Jake has set the standard in class for professionalism, strong work ethic and integrity. He has proven himself as a leader,” according to the release.

Whitley has been selected as a member of the CATC Honor Guard Team and was the SkillsUSA Gold Medalist in the Job Interview competition.

In the fall, Whitley plans to attend Central Maine Community College and study criminal justice.
