Portland police are looking for witnesses to a single-car crash that seriously injured two people on outer Congress Street at 1:24 a.m. Sunday.

Police said in a Facebook post that they are investigating the cause of the crash, which took place near 2039 Congress St., which is located near Portland International Jetport and Brooklawn Memorial Park cemetery.

A 23-year-old Westbrook man crashed a gray 2007 BMW into a stone wall after leaving the road. Police did not release his name or that of his passenger, a 25-year-old Portland woman pending notification of their relatives.

Lt. Robert Martin, a spokesman for the Portland Police Department, said Sunday evening that investigators had spent most of Sunday trying to reach relatives.

The two were hospitalized with “significant” injuries, police said.

Police are asking witnesses to the crash to call them at 874-8532 or 874-8575.
